Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The scientific catalog of the works of art in the Collection of Art and Spirituality in Brescia refers to that nucleus of works, part of the Vatican Collection which, by donation of Msgr. Pasquale Macchi, personal secretary of Pope Paul VI, were donated after his death to the pontiff's hometown, to which were added, over time, other significant acquisitions. It is a monumental historical-critical work that has screened 1217 works by 293 artists, a whole new chapter in an interlocution of the Church with the contemporary world, a work of historicization, a now indispensable contribution of knowledge that reveals, beyond disciplinary studies, a way interpretative of aspects of the history of the Church, of a particular reading of modernity and of the same papacy. The specific work on each work led to a multiplication of research and in-depth analysis for each artist and for each work that needed a strong direction that encouraged and allowed them to exercise a continuous transversality so that information, discoveries, relationships, by hand by hand reached, were as much as possible crossed. The patrimony of knowledge acquired with a multi-year cataloging job has become available to the public, and, although it does not allow to reach the work in its intangibility and in its descent into the real and ideal space of the museum, as in its usability, it is a goal fundamental approach to the work in its broader context made available for future reasoning.
