Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The pamphlet by Cletto Arrighi is offered here in a critical and scientifically commented edition, as it is a "subversive" parody that rewrote the Betrothed in the light of the new historical and cultural conditions of the late nineteenth century. A controversial operation of the writing having as its object political, cultural, ideological and religious aspects of its time, meaning Arrighi to oppose what the appearance of the Manzoni novel in an age of marked anti-clericalism meant and now claiming the latter in an age instead of strong clerical regurgitation.
