Abstract
After their conversion, Clare and the community of San Damiano wanted to be connected to Francis and the Order of the Friars Minor. The Papal Curia instead, above all the cardinal Hugo/Hugolino of Ostia, had a project to reform the female religious life according to the constitutions of the fourth Lateran Council. Until Francis was alive, Hugolino was not able to introduce his form of life (for the monasteries he founded) in San Damiano, but after Francis’ death and the deposition of br. Helias Gregory IX could realize his design
