Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Backbone of our country, the Apennines cross very different territories, from Calabria Silana to the Lucanian mountains, from the Abruzzo of Gran Sasso to the paths of the internal Marche, up to the Tuscan-Emilian and Ligurian mountains, which project it towards the meeting with the Alps. Yet, in their diversity, they are places united by a profound identity. It is precisely the founding traits of the "Apennine civilization" that Raffaele Nigro and Giuseppe Lupo reveal to us in this book, by relating suggestions and notions from literature, history, anthropology and art. From this set of elements emerges a country no longer interpreted according to the traditional horizontal perspective - North, Center, South - but in a vertical key, that is according to its physical structure, which favors an altimetric reading of the society of the past, present and future . A line that acts as a link between the Mediterranean and Europe, without forgetting the socio-cultural components of the East and West. Looking at Italy vertically allows you to re-read the history of our country by pivoting on three lines.
