Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Today, a careful reading of the PP helps us on the one hand to find the ideal reasons for working for development, on the other hand to look realistically at the question of development, rediscovering a non-superficial enthusiasm for the development of "the whole person and all the men ". The PP testifies to the certainty of having received a global vision of the human person and of humanity (for which development has a "sense"), which the Church considers its duty to offer to all1. This certainty of "meaning" translates into the capacity of the encyclical to focus on specific declinations and proposals that have a truly impressive scope and capacity to grasp the fundamental junctions, ambivalences and problems of development policies. As we will see, the PP anticipates in fact several themes that only in the following decades will arrive in the debate on development and that in many cases have become and today constitute "hot" objects of research and political-economic debate.
