Cicerone e il "vero" vincitore della prima guerra punica

Translated title of the contribution: Is Cicero the real winner of the First Punic War

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The references to Aulus Atilius Calatinus in Cicero's works show that the latter considered him the most important leader of the First Punic War and a prominent figure in the politics of his time, however this opinion is not present in the other sources relating to Calatinus. The research intends to investigate the causes and circumstances that aroused Cicero's interest in Calatinus, as well as to investigate a possible example of a downsizing of his figure visible in other sources, namely the case of Calatinus’ dictatorship in 249 BC, the first example of a dictatorship extra Italiam in the history of Rome.
