Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Cultural heritage is one of those things that, paradoxically, the more we talk the less we risk understanding. And it is not so surprising, for a concept whose only "official" definition belongs to the legislative sphere and whose multiple unofficial interpretations derive from the most varied points of view. If ordinary people have a certain idea, the experts see them probably in a very different way. Not to mention what we read in the newspapers, animated by the controversy between strenuous defenders of the heritage and supporters of its economization at all costs. The recent news events (cuts to culture, alternations to the ministry) can only increase the complexity of the situation and the sense of disorientation that derives from it. In such a context it is more urgent than ever to stir up a collective reflection on a concept like that of a cultural good, civil by definition, because it is directly linked to the culture of a people and its concrete and intangible manifestations. This book was created for this purpose and addresses, even before university students, anyone who cares seriously about the question: what are cultural assets?
