Chapter three. Germanic law: insights into legal terminology

Paola Tornaghi

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

A comparison drawn between the documents available and the detailed description contained in Tacitus’s Germania, a vivacious portrait of the Germanic peoples at a time close to their unified phase, gave me the inspiration for the following pages. My aim is not, however, to give a detailed and accurate analysis of juridical procedures but, rather, as a general presentation of the socio-cultural bases at the core of Germanic law for all Germanic tribes.
