The authors report preliminary results regarding the impact of sepsis, liver disfunction and severity of illness in decreasing plasma cholesterol in surgical patients (mainly in patients after liver resection). The impact of cholestasis in moderating the decrease in cholesterol is also quantified, with additional details.
