Abstract
The contribution deals with the relationship between research and educational practices and policies, especially about some important issues that may be considered - nowadays - in terms of actual strategic and epistemological challenges for research. The analysis is divided into three parts: in the first part, the focus is that educational research has to solve a problem of significance; the second part shows some main directions for educational research to be an original and essential partner of educational practices and policies; in the third, the essay stresses the international trends in educational policies and research.
