Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In this article we examine the effects of the network structure on the performance of cooperative networks in environments where the need to comply with regulatory constraints significantly influences the behavior of the actors. Empirical evidence supports the hypothesis that, in cooperative contexts, network centrality has a negative effect on performance. These effects are moderated by the cohesion of the network and the presence of institutional restrictions. In particular, the density moderates the centrality and the presence of restrictions emphasizes the negative effects. Our hypotheses are tested on a sample of 115 clinical research projects developed in the pharmaceutical industry.
