Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Crime novel - The series constitutes an eccentric case in the panorama of Italian tele-visual fiction, for its productive origin and for the high level of experimentation in writing, style and expressive technique. In the two seasons of the series the representation of the prison is a recurring motif, with episodes entirely set in Regina Coeli and completed narrative lines organized around the internal / external dialectic, in a physical and symbolic sense. The intent of the essay is to analyze the specific ways in which the prison works in the text as a narrative device. The prison is a topos from which the serial story is organized and unfolds. Within its perimeter and in the various places that compose it (the cells, the corridor, the canteen, the courtyard, the parlor) narrative trajectories are triggered that could not be undertaken externally. Physical confinement allows the crime action to be temporarily frozen and to further investigate the psychology of the characters, as well as to complete portions of the story previously left unfinished. The analysis will also call into question the dense network of expressive matrices that make Romanzo criminale - The series a crossroads of genres. Precisely the prison is the point of convergence of a wide range of international and national cinematographic references (from the prison movie to the Italian poliziottesco) to which the series draws giving life to a continuous hybridization of genres and subgenres.
