Abstract
Within the studies on the relations between the Catholic world and the film industry, the essay reconstructs the production enterprise of the Italian missionaries. After World War II, in fact, the Church recommended a greater commitment of the ecclesiastical body to the cinema, which for the missionaries translated into the birth of independent production companies. These were enterprises that wanted to remain on the fringes of the mainstream industry, but which enriched the picture of Italian cinema of the period. Through the analysis of some case studies, the essay highlights the characteristics of this entrepreneurial spirit and its products.
