Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Organizational studies have paid particular attention to the role of identity and the changes it undergoes during change events such as mergers and acquisitions. Changes in identity are often linked to phenomena of deterioration in employee behavior and performance. The literature distinguishes two levels of identity, one organizational and one professional. This study intends to analyze the role of individual, work and identity variables on the performance of 150 employees of the company TUA Spa, involved between 2015 and 2016 in a merger and acquisition process. The results show a deteriorated performance in the post-merger. Among the significant causes of deterioration, a fundamental role is played by the change in professional identity, seniority in the role, place of work, poor access to information on the change. The change in organizational identity, although worsened in the post-merger, does not impact the performance levels of workers.
