Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The present work aimed at quantifying the consumption of natural and agricultural land and examining its effects on environmental permeability, calculated by evaluating the variation of the values of “Environmental friction” specifically considering large herbivores (ungulates). The methodology illustrated in Rizzo et al. (2014) and extended here to most of Northern Italy allows us to estimate the effort necessary for an animal species to cross a given type of land use. All analyzes are were carried out for the period 1950-2006 using the provincial land use and the nature network areas 2000 SCI and SPA of 5 regions of Northern Italy: Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia, using the open source GIS software QGIS 2.10 and ArcGIS 10.2. The data highlights level provincial a generalized worsening of environmental permeability while in many areas SCI and SPA protected there has been an improvement in environmental permeability.
