Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Protagonists of a good part of the twentieth century, starting from the sixties and seventies the "masses" began to lose their political centrality, undermined by a new emerging subject, the "public" formed by the vast television audience. Today social media triggers the fragmentation of the "public" in a plurality of segments that are not rooted in a common communicative sphere. After leaving the old party democracy behind us, we are also moving away from the model of public democracy. Perhaps we are already in a bubble democracy, a new structure in which the "public" dissolves into a myriad of "largely self-referential" bubbles and in which polarization mechanisms are strengthened.
