Abstract

The meaning of the myth does not lie in its illusory origin, but in its reception. In Blumenberg’s hermeneutics of myth the research concerning the origin moves rather towards the individuation of its historical task, that is the question about its function and its incidence of its recurrent tale in every historical period. The myth is an inexhaustible reserve of sense to which is possible to draw without impoverishing it. It produces sense every time one draw to it in order to build the actuality. The western culture has traditionally opposed myth and logos, depicting the history as a progressive enlightenment of reality, but the opposition between myth and logos is only a false alternative, because myth and logos are two moments of the same reality. Every myth has been rework by logos and the logos itself has been nourished by the myth. The continuous and never-ended research of sense corresponds to the human reflexion on the impossibility of being its own God.
