Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Is it really a historical novel The Queen's Tragedy by Robert Hugh Benson? Was it still possible to write about it in 1906 (and not in 1907, as shown in the colophon of the new Italian translation)? According to which specific declination and with which cultural objectives? The dedication of The Queen's Tragedy to the austere nanny Beth di Benson, dated May 1, 1906, offers some clues in this regard: "on the occasion of the publication of some of my previous books, some critics had expressed their concerns in a courteous way, observing that the kingdom of Mary Tudor actually told a very different story about that Catholic character. It is precisely that story that I am now going to expose as honestly as possible ".
