Abstract
During the papacy of Benedict XV, Gemelli's project (the foundation of a Catholic Universìity) found itself in an ecclesiastic context that was not always open to it. What ensued was the result of negotiations that brought changes in the planned programme that Gemelli was required to make by the Vatican. In any case, Benedict XV did not give him free reign. In the same official documents that communicated the Vatican approval of the university, there are also points aimed at keeping the new university within the bounds of orthodoxy.
