Abstract

The EQ-i is a tool for the evaluation of the Emotional Quotient and size associated with it, which allows the measurement of the psychological dimensions not strictly related cognitive intelligence, but oriented to the psychological well-being and success in life. The Italian adaptation showed the goodness of its psychometric properties, as well as the validity of the theoretical construct of emotional intelligence. In the assessment psychological EQ-i is easy to administer and provides ratings and profiles key to understanding the emotional competence of those involved. The main features of the questionnaire are: 17 years of research behind it, involving 85,000 people from four different continents and the use of 30 different translations. Focus international and multicultural. Multidimensional objectives (a total emotional quotient/ QE, five main scales and15 subscales EQ-i). Good reliability and validity, based on a large sample. Versatility: can be used in business, education, and clinical research. Easy to fill and to use. The main structure: The EQ-i consists of 133 items divided into 15 subscales grouped into 5 main stairs, with a scale of graduated response to 5 points, from "Absolutely true for me" to "Not at all true for me." The raw scores are converted into standard scores calculated average of "100" and standard deviation of 15 (similar to that of the scores for IQ). You also get a Total Emotional Quotient (EQ) Intrapersonal EQ (RAeq), It is about the awareness of their own emotions, and the knowledge and the ability to express their feelings and thoughts. It’s composed by five subscales: Self-Regard (SR); Emotional Self-Awareness (ES), Assertiveness (AS); Independence (IN); Self-Actualization (SA). Interpersonal Scale (EReq).It is the ability to be aware about the emotions and feelings of other people, establishing and maintaining responsible interpersonal relationships. It is composed by three subscales; Empathy (EM); Social Responsibility (RE); Interpersonal Relationship (IR). Adaptability (Adeq). It refers to the competence to objectively verify their moods and those of the other depending on the demands of the external environment, showing flexibility in managing change and emotions to changing situation It is composed by three subscales: Reality Testing (RT); Flexibility (FL); Problem Solving (PS.) Stress Management EQ (SMeq). Describes the ability to handle stressful situations while controlling strong emotions; it’s composed by two subscales. Stress Tolerance (ST); Impulse Control (IC). General Mood EQ (GMeq). Expresses the ability to be optimistic, able to feel and express positive feelings and enjoy the presence of others. The mood is a motivational component that influences the problem solving and the choice of strategies for stress management, involves two subscales. Optimism (OP); Happiness (HA). Indexes of Validity and Critical Item. In addition to four indices of validity, you can define the Critical Item to identify depressive conditions, psychotic states and potential loss of control. Indexes of Validity, are: Inconsistency Index (IN); Item 133; Positive Impression (PI) Negative ; Impression (NI). Critical Item: Style Depressive (SD); Style Psychotic (SP); Style Loss of Control (SPC). About the use of EQ-i. In the area of the organization the EQ-i can be used in the selection procedure for the evaluation of the potential for career planning. It is also used in training to improve the level of exercise of the role of leadership on the part of managers, analyze and increase the level of relational and organizational efficiency, and to evaluate the business climate. It is a valid support for counseling and coaching.
