Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Under the premise that in the last 10 to 15 years the World Wide Web has increasingly been used by linguistic research as an instrument for obtaining empirical data as well as a communication channel, the co-authors are investigating three web-based research methods: the online survey , crowdsourcing and web-based corpus analysis. The respective method is defined in three sections, its relevance for linguistics is examined, sample projects presented in exemplary areas of dialectology, semantics and lexicography are presented as well as the advantages and criticisms of the method are weighed. The authors come to the conclusion that there is a great opportunity in the web-based extraction of mass data to clarify questions that have not been answered hitherto in linguistics or those that are not sufficiently answered. With careful consideration of the procedures that ensure quality assurance of the investigations, the authors see the benefits of web-based linguistic research, especially in the area of quantitative questions.
