Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In his text The Telemachus complex, M. Recalcati (2013), referring to the fact that the generations of the last few decades have had to face their growth in the absence of the 'father', insists on the role of witness of the 'absent-present father' : a fundamental indication but far from obvious. For two reasons. The first is that we recognize what is problematic in our society: the importance of authority. The second reason is the centrality of testimony: in a post-Oedipal world, the question of the law passes through its incarnation in the life of those who, without imposing themselves with power, constitute themselves as a symbolic point of reference for the journey, showing the sanity of going. But what meaning can testimony have in a flat society where everything is equal to everything and in which fragmentation makes the process of identification very difficult? Pushing the understanding of what authority is a little further is not easy. Yet necessary, especially if one thinks of the intergenerational relationship, since this decides whether to authorize the other to grow to the mature stature of freedom or whether to opt for reality check, homologation and sterile repetition. The article outlines a horizon for reopening the link between authority and the intergenerational nexus: Telemachus goes in search of a meaning to begin his journey, beyond the nostalgia of a glorious and powerful father, eternal occupier of positions of power, but also beyond the pleasure-loving father playmate of his children, deluding them of the outdatedness of authority within the mirages that chase each other on the water for the thousand possibilities until they lose direction. Looks for someone to give him permission to 'follow his star'
