Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The Diuus Augustus of Suetonius can not be read only in the light of the first years of Hadrian's reign and their problems, but it is also necessary to associate the reign of Trajan, when Suetonius conceived his work: to the formed contemporary couple by the conqueror Trajan and the administrator Hadrian corresponds the opening couple of the Kaisergeschichte suetonian, Caesar and Augustus: their undeniable merit was to have put an end to the crisis of the republic and to have established the new imperial regime, necessary and providential, because it had been wanted by the gods.
