Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume reconstructs the events of the group of abstract painters formed in Florence with the names of "Arte d'Oggi" (since 1947) and, later, of "Classical Abstraction", according to the definition chosen by the philosopher Ermanno Migliorini in the Manifesto of 1950 . Although the formation of the group was mostly consolidated around the names of Vinicio Berti, Bruno Brunetti, Alvaro Monnini, Gualtiero Nativi and Mario Nuti, the phenomenon was able to touch the experiences of other Tuscan artists, as well as to insert the Florentine artistic environment in the panorama of the national and international debate around abstraction, in years of crucial importance. From the post-Cubist beginnings to the more rigorous abstract-geometric approaches, the path of these artists had in fact the merit of grasping some of the fundamental aspects of this debate, not only as regards the political legitimation, in the Marxist sense, of abstract art, but also in the articulation of an Italian position on the theme of concretism and the search for an integration of the arts in the architectural and urban space.
