Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay examines the monetary production of the Neronian age in the perspective of a "reversal" with respect to the Augustan one under two different angles: the first concerning the ideology of power as it appears outlined in written and monetary subjects; the second concerning the stylistic elaboration of the subjects. In all five broad thematic categories in which Nero's coinage can be enclosed, iconographic and / or epigraphic aspects can be captured that still refer, with greater or lesser evidence, to the coinage of Augustus, for example in the celebration of the divine ascendants; in the role assigned to the subject of the oak crown; in the importance assumed by the Armenian question. Precise signs of a figurative and stylistic innovation consequent to the cultural and ideological setting of the Neronian principality, which partly subverts the Augustan approach, can be seen, for example, in the role assigned to the female figures of the mother Agrippina and his wife Poppea; in the celebration of Apollo citaredo, which appears at the antipodes from that of the Apollo Aziaco on the Augustan issues; in the thematic issue of buildings and monuments.
