Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The Notebook reports some of the most significant contributions of an international conference, held at the Catholic University in October 2017, jointly promoted by the staff of the Master in Family and Community Mediation and by the MEDeS Association, which brings together mediators from various areas of origin - psychologists, lawyers, social workers - who share a passion for mediation and refer to the symbolic relational model. The initiative focused on a moment of the mediation process: listening, which is often little considered, to the advantage of the negotiation phase. The book offers an interdisciplinary study on a central theme not only for the practice of the mediator, but also for those who care about family and community ties, beyond explicit conflict. Starting from practical experiences, the reader is introduced into an 'all ears' world, in which the professional listens to the children of separated parents within a Word Group, or helps students manage conflicts in the classroom; and again we find the mediator who listens to former kidnapped or former guerrillas, and their families, at the end of the civil war in Bogota. In different contexts, with very different objectives, a 'certain way' of listening leaves a trace, both in those who speak and in those who receive it, so that the quality of relationships can change and each subject can access the symbolic dimension of the spoken word. or of the done gesture, and you become more competent about your own life. The text reports a lively dialogue between mediators in the hospital, mediators with couples in the process of separation or divorce, mediators active in the school, in the territories - in Italy (on the Island of Lampedusa) and in Colombia - and significant figures in social life, such as the President of the Juvenile Court or the Spiritual Assistant of the Milan juvenile prison.
