Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the term used to indicate a group of inflammatory joint diseases with an unknown aetiology, beginning before the age of 16, with a total duration of more than 6 weeks: this definition was chosen to indicate the absence of a known mechanism responsible for disease and to emphasize the need to exclude other forms of arthritis that occur in association with other diseases (hematological, inflammatory or infectious). This article describes the classification of various types of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and lists the main methods of treatment.
