Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution on the 20th-century artistic heritage of the Valle d'Aosta starts from the profitable situation that sees the establishment of late 19th-century industrial plants in the lower valley, such as the one that revolves around the Hefti-De Angeli-Frua and which gives rise to the workers' village of Roè . In particular, the statue that pays homage to the weaver's family, signed by the Milanese sculptor Egidio Boninsegna, represents the starting point of the itinerary that winds through the statuary presences of Angelo Zanelli and Cirillo Bagozzi, the latter active, above all, in the ambit of monumental works for the fallen. In terms of pictorial production, the itinerary touches the most significant figures of the twentieth century, Edoardo Togni, Ottorino Garosio and Antonio Stagnoli, without forgetting the role of Don Lorenzo Salice, especially in the resistance context and that, later, of the foreigners Omero Solaro and Piero Giunni, but also of Vittorio Trainini, whose unmistakable style has left its mark on many religious buildings in the area. The international opening of the Anfo + the artistic avant-garde event that takes place in 1968, albeit isolated, constitutes an interesting junction for evaluating the cultural updating of the valley which has already hosted Piero Manzoni in the retreat of Soprazocco. Even without specific insights, the essay also highlights the pioneering contributions to the protection of local cultural heritage, documented by the foundation, since the 1950s, of the Archaeological Museum of Valle Sabbia in Gavardo and, in 1974, of that of the Resistance and Valsabbino Folklore in Pertica Bassa, now part of the more complex local museum system. Appropriate references to valley associations, aimed at the figurative practice and the organization of prizes and exhibitions, are accompanied by a reflection on current events, in which the ambitious planning of the new Printers Museum «da Sabbio» makes its way, dedicated to the enhancement of the ancient printers who were born here.
