[Autom. eng. transl.] In 2010-2011, in Central Italy the influence of two pruning techniques on the control of vegetative activity, on the maintenance of a high leaf area and on the efficiency of continuous harvesting of super-intensive olive groves on duevariato, Arbequina and Moraiolo was evaluated. , different for postamento.Una technique, indicated with the term "pruning", consisted in cutting operations by scissors, aimed at eliminating badly positioned branches, suckers, excessively vertical branches, branches placed below 50 cm; the other, "folding", consisted in the application of a minimal pruning and in the inclination and bending of the branches towards the inside of the row, using as a support the threads of the structure. The pruning technique has significantly influenced the vigor of the plants; in fact, after a year from the intervention, about 1.8 kg of plant material were removed from the plants pruned with caesar cuts compared to 0.6 kg by the bent plants. The pruning technique did not affect the volume of the foliage, but conditioned the production of olives per plant. The "bent" plants produced 4.7 kg of olives against 4.2 kg of "pruned" plants. This behavior can be explained by the greater vegetative-productive equilibrium found in “folded” olive trees, which, in fact, tend to produce less vegetative material. The speed of harvesting with a grader was equal to 2.1 km / h, with values slightly minor in plants subjected to bending compared to those pruned. The damage to the plants was limited, compared to what was observed in other plants, without differences between pruning techniques and cultivars. In April 2011, the plants of the two theses in both varieties showed a high flowering. The results indicated that bending allows a better vegetative control and an increase in the productivity of super-intensive olive groves, thanks to the achievement and / or maintenance of a greater vegetative-productive balance.
