Access to and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are a potential tool for social inclusion and active aging, but in our country they are still the prerogative of a minority of the population over 65. Based on statistical data and results of field research, the chapter traces a profile of the "digital elderly" in Italy describing the main online activities with particular reference to the sphere of family relationships; moreover, the subjective dimension of the motivations and the meanings attributed to the digital experience is analyzed, as well as the evaluation of opportunities and risks for the physical, psychological and relational well-being of the elderly. Alongside these opportunities, stands the problem of the digital exclusion of a large segment of the elderly population, in danger of a deficit of citizenship.
