[Autom. eng. transl.] Introduction: The increase in the prevalence of chronic conditions requires, in the area of primary care, a transition from fragmentary treatment logics to the logic of unitary re-composition of assistance for taking care of individuals. In this context, the need for personalized individual plans emerges as tools that ensure continuity of care for each individual. The purpose of this literature review is to evaluate the trend over time of the attention of the scientific community to the role of Individual Assistance Plans (PAI). Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted by querying the MEDLINE database for the entire archival period up to 2014, using specific keywords. The relevant articles obtained were subsequently categorized based on the year of publication. The statistical analysis was carried out using a linear regression model in which the year was considered as an independent variable and the number of articles as a dependent variable expressed in logarithmic scale since the regression was non-linear for the parameters. Results: The total of the articles obtained was 611. Following a review by titles and abstracts, 238 articles have a focus on the role of the PAI and have been included in the subsequent analysis. The regression model showed an annual increase in the number of publications of 8.6% (CI95% 6.7% and 10.5%). Conclusions: This research shows a growing scientific interest, over the last 30 years, regarding the development of PAIs that read and respond adequately to the needs of the individual. Further studies are, however, necessary to assess the impact that the Individual Assistance Plans have in relation to the overall management of the patient, both in terms of improving health outcomes and implementing assistance processes.
