Abstract
The contribution takes as its starting point the author’s essay published in 2010 and examines the developments of the dispute which occurred in Brescia in 1783 between the pasta maker and seller Lorenzo Gilberti and the local booksellers and publishers, who wished to prevent him from becoming a licensed bookseller. There is some surviving evidence to suggest that Gilberti did indeed open a bookshop in Brescia, which was then transferred to his heirs who at first ran the shop using their father’s name and then, with the expansion of their activity to include publishing, changed the name to their own: they became one of the most significant Brescian booksellers and publishers in the nineteenth century.
