Abstract
The essay reflects upon some relevant examples of video-installation using materials from the movies. Making art as a way of criticizing and de-constructing another medium is a common tendency in today's culture. These installations allow the artist to challenge the cinematic text by suspending some of the commonly accepted illusions movies are based on: their supposed "embodiness" and the imaginary continuity of diegesis. In video-installations, such suspension is made possible by the refusal of the "somwehere else" movies take place in, obtained through the use of actual space.
