Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] This article intends to propose a hermeneutical approach to Alps and Sanctuaries based on the analysis of echographic and intersemiotic and intercultural translation procedures operated by Butler, to then dwell on the profound influence that contact with the Italian territory has had on the author's thought regarding the concept of cultural evolution. To this end, the argument will be conducted by activating an intertextual dialogue between Alps and Sanctuaries and Life and Habit (1878), the Butlerian response to the heated debate on the evolution of the species, a debate that informs and inflames nineteenth-century epistemology in a crucial way .
