Abstract
The book intends to propose an unpublished reading of the art of the Thirties in Italy through the presentation of an artistic movement that theoretically bases its constitution on the primordialist ideas elaborated by some intellectuals and artists led by the philosopher Franco Ciliberti (Laglio 1905-Como 1946), theorist of primordialism and founder of a magazine in 1938 and of a group in 1941, which brought together those figures of intellectuals, artists, architects and men of letters that in his opinion can be traced back to a common primordial ideality. Ciliberti's initiatives intersect with history, politics and aesthetics and offer an opportunity to reflect on the possibility of identifying, in the Italian and international art scene, a line of art that combined philosophy, creativity and design. The book reconstructs the initiatives and reflects on the elaboration of ideas, highlighting aspects and intersections between works and aesthetic theories. Primordialism can thus take the form of an alternative interpretation of 1930s art to magical realism, abstraction and futurism, with which it is confronted, but from which it stands out at the same time.
