Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] After exposing the history and functioning of Alcoholics Anonymous, we will describe the main mechanisms of behavior change acting in the group. It will be shown how Alcoholics Anonymous are effective in reducing the tendency to consume substances through the activation of adaptive social networks. We will describe how families supported by specific self-help groups (Al-Anon) can be prepared to better manage the relationship with their loved one by helping him in recovery. Finally, we will reflect on the possible synergy between Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, showing the interdependence of the subjects involved and the potential of active participation in their own discomfort.
