Abstract
The essay examines the dialogues between Renzo and Lucia, in particular that of chapter XXXVI. The examination of the language of the interlocutor and that of their proxemics allows us to identify the phases of separation, up to the risk of rupture, and of rapprochement. From this perspective, chapter XXXVI must be recognized as an essential stage of a training path that is not individual, but rather of a couple, and which will be sanctioned in the final lines of the Betrothed. The transition from the individual Bildungsroman to the couple Bildungsroman constitutes a significant innovation introduced by Manzoni in the European novel.
