Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The Severian jurisprudential works of Institutiones - unlike the Gaian institutional manual - are characterized by a strong initial ethical-philosophical imprint, by a valorization of the natural ius as opposed to the ius gentium, and by a general 'ethical' condemnation of the iuris institute slavery gentium because of an ecumenical perspective and the stoic concept of unity of mankind. The essay presents some texts from which these so-called 'ecumenical afflates' emerge. They refer directly to philosophical doctrines, in particular to stoicism. Yet jurists do not just transmit these doctrines but, on the contrary, make them their own and reinterpret them in the light of the specific contents of their ars.
