Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The world is aging and Italy is one of the fastest growing countries. Changes in the age structure of the population are the result of greater adult longevity and less fertility. As well as being successful, progressive aging also brings numerous challenges. The first challenge is that of a decrease in the population of working age, compared to the total one, with the contextual worsening of the dependency rate of the elderly which jeopardizes the sustainability of welfare systems and the well-being of future generations. The second challenge is that of moving forward the stages that characterize people's life paths: as recalled by the OECD, "live longer" also means "work longer" while working longer time, labor and welfare policies have favored, in contrast to the increase in life expectancy, the use of early retirement, favoring the early exit of entire cohorts of workers.
