Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The observation and analysis of the consumption behaviors of immigrants and the comparison with those of the host population represent an important reference for understanding the level of integration of immigrants and mutual acculturation, understood as the process of change and cultural and psychological approach. generated by a lasting contact with communities belonging to different cultures. This book summarizes the results of a research project promoted by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan which sought to investigate the purchasing and consumption behavior of new consumers of foreign origin. The research focuses on the population permanently resident in Italy and not on the emergency aspects of the migratory phenomenon. The research focused on consumption related to a plurality of sectors (food, clothing and fashion, technological products, commercial services, health services and cultural consumption) and, on the supply side, on business policies aimed at the target of immigrants. and on the entrepreneurial activities carried out by immigrant populations. The comparative analysis of the different markets on which the empirical research has focused has revealed some convergences of attitudes in particular of the second generations, the significant relationship "consumption-generation of belonging", the role of geographical origin and identity of origin in the purchasing and consumption process. The research clearly shows that consumption can actually represent a fundamental moment of contact, acculturation and integration in the relationship between immigrant and native populations. These factors are accompanied by some challenges both for the formulation of corporate strategies and for the institutional context in terms of policy
