Abstract
We report the case of a 43-year-old man with a history of lung\r\ncarcinoid and a recent detection of thyroid nodules by ultrasound. The cytological\r\nanalysis raised the suspicion of medullary thyroid carcinoma; however,\r\ncalcitonin and carcinoembryonic antigen levels were in reference\r\nrange. Considering the previous diagnosis of lung carcinoid, the patient\r\nunderwentwhole-body 68Ga-DOTATOCPET/CT. The images showed focal\r\nradiopharmaceutical uptake in both thyroid lobes. After thyroidectomy, the\r\nhistology and immunohistochemistry (negative for calcitonin and positive for\r\nchromogranin A) confirmed the neuroendocrine origin of the thyroid nodules,\r\npossibly referable to previous lung carcinoid.
